NIC CAGE AND CHRISTOPHER LEE COMPETE FOR RE-MAKE
Universal Pictures and Nicolas Cage plan to remake cult horror film "The Wicker Man."
Actor Christopher "Dracula" Lee and director Robin Hardy, participants in the original 1973 film, will also produce a new version of "The Wicker Man".
But Universal, as owners of the title, have entered into an agreement with Cage's Saturn Films only. Cage will star/produce with Neil "Nurse Betty" LaBute writing/directing.
Hardy's screenplay "The Riding of the Laddie," intends to shoot near Glasgow, Scotland. Christopher Lee, experiencing a fresh wave of popularity with recent turns in "Lord Of The Rings" and "Star Wars : Espisode 2", intends to star.
In the 1973 version, Lee portrayed 'Lord Summerisle', leader of a pagan community inhabiting a remote island off the west coast of Scotland. The story follows a policeman (Edward Woodward) investigating a disappearance, leading him to the island, falling victim to the bizarre cult.
